As a fan of the series, I have always been fascinated by the idea of instantaneous travel between planets. It is so different from the standard Sci-Fi approach: building spaceships, preparing a crew, flying for a number of years in stasis, etc. You just step through the gate and in a matter of seconds, you are standing on another planet. So, it has been only natural to try going through the Stargate while in the Phase. And when you think about it, isn’t the Phase travel with a speed of thought represents the same concept as the gate network?
I tried several times with no luck. Once I even get to the gate room with an open gate but didn’t have time to go through and was kicked out of the Phase. But today was the day. I keep having this midnight Phase experiences which are long and very controllable but much harder to recall in details after waking up. In any case, I opened the door into a gate room and walked in. The room looked exactly like in the movie. The Stargate was inactive. The it started to activate and I moved out to the side. Then there was a blast and I am looking at the moving water of the event horizon. For some reason, it is light blue, a lot lighter than in the movie. I come up and touch the water. It feels like water. Then I stepped in. This is where I expected to experience something interesting but instead I just stepped through it and the next thing I know I am standing on another planet.
Conclusion. As with flying up to the stars, my Stargate experience proved to be an overkill. If you want to go somewhere in the Phase, do not come up with something complicated and time-consuming. Just open the nearest door and it will get you where you want to be. Unless you enjoy the process. I still like flying for the heck of flying. Especially in form of a raven…
