Deepening

Deepening refers to the techniques that allow a practitioner to induce realistic perception and awareness in the Phase.

The Phase is not an unambiguous and fixed state; rather it is a set of states ranging from the usual perception of the physical body to complete alienation from it while preserving consciousness and realistic perception (but of a different world). When entering the Phase, all sensations are usually very superficial. Deepening is the first thing a practitioner needs to do when entering the Phase to solve the problem of diminished or absent sensory perception. In other words, the main purpose of deepening techniques is to make the Phase experience as real as the real world and in most cases even more so.

From the very beginning, one needs to learn to apply deepening techniques while taking the first steps of the action plan to save time. Deepening also helps to prolong the Phase experience itself.

Deepening techniques can be divided into initial and primary.

The goal of initial deepening is to assure the complete separation from the physical body. As soon as you separate using separation techniques, make sure your position is totally different from the real one: stand up, walk away, turn around, etc. If you feel yourself being pulled back into a physical body, resist, grab something and pull yourself into the Phase.

The goal of primary deepening techniques is to amplify your senses once you are completely separated from the physical body. When you get into the Phase, your vision may be absent or blurry, so palpation needs to be applied. Palpating everything around you will lead to clarity of the surroundings. Once you have even rudimentary vision, try to peer into objects around you, which will make them look very real and more detailed. Combining palpation and peering will provide the maximum possible deepening effect in the Phase. The more intensely you sense the world around you, the deeper it will be and the longer the Phase experience will last.

Sensory amplification comes intuitively when you remember a simple rule: if some sensations are lacking or if one of the senses is dull and vague, then that sense needs to be heightened as much as possible.
